The CHW Learning Center serves as a family resource center for underserved families and individuals in Kern County. The Learning Center provides assistance and support with basic needs, health concerns, and educational opportunities for those people least able to advocate for themselves. Some of the programs include:
Daily Meal Program - food provided by Bakersfield Memorial Hospital as well as Mercy and Mercy Southwest Hospitals is distributed to homeless individuals in the neighborhood surrounding the Center.
Cancer Detection Programs - in collaboration with the Cancer Detection Programs: "Every Woman Counts" of the California Women's Partnership. Monthly educational workshops are provided on the importance of breast self-exams, annual mammograms, and cervical exams. Women who meet the program guidelines are referred for no cost cervical and breast exams and/or mammograms.
Homework Club - offers academic and cultural enrichment activities and provides a safe haven to children in the 1st through 6th grades living in one of the most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods in Bakersfield.
