Value Enhancement Program


 
The Value Enhancement Program (VEP) is designed to develop a young person's self-worth and a sense of pride by providing needed community service. This program has three components:

Saturday Work Project - VEP Youth participate in Saturday projects that benefit senior citizens in our community. Thirty eligible youth ages 12-18 years old participate in the projects on the second Saturday of each month. The youth are eligible to earn up to $30 in gift certificates for their participation, good attitude and extra effort on the project. Adult supervisors work as mentors to youth, providing encouragement, education and empowerment.

After School Youth Center - The After School Youth Center focuses on developing a youth's academic, social and life skills while becoming more involved in the community. Each youth can participate in arts and crafts, games, homework assistance, field trips and various community service projects. The After School Youth Center is open Monday thorugh Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Internship Program - This experience helps young people understand the true value of work. They receive on-going job training and support in an actual work setting. Youth participants of the Saturday Work Project and After School Youth Center are eligible to participate in the Internship Program working in the Housekeeping Department at Mercy Hospital.
