Accommodations
The hospital rooms are private and semi-private at Mercy Hospital, Truxtun. The hospital rooms are private at Mercy Southwest Hospital.
Your hospital room has been planned for efficient medical and nursing care in a safe, comfortable environment. Each bed is designed for professional nursing care and probably is narrower and higher than the bed which you are accustomed to at home.
These beds have many comfort and convenience features for patients, as well as for caregivers. The beds can be adjusted into many comfortable positions. Patients can operate the bed for their own comfort.
The side rails on the bed are for your protection. Please do not lower the side rails - call your nurse to assist you. Your physician may request that you have assistance getting in and out of bed, so please call your nurse. Each hospital bed is equipped with a call bell system. Your nurse will instruct you on its use.
Telephone
All inpatient rooms are equipped with direct telephone access. You will have access to make free local calls. All long distance calls require operator assistance and will need to billed to your home number, calling card or you may make a collect call.
Television
Television service is provided free of charge in all patient rooms.
Mail
Mail is delivered daily except on weekends. Any mail delivered after your discharge will be forwarded to your home address. Please encourage the use of your full name to assure accurate delivery.
Newspapers and Flowers
Newspapers are available in the Gift Shop or may be delivered to your room upon request. Flowers are delivered to patient rooms as soon as they arrive. Flowers are not allowed in the intensive care units. They will be sent home with your family/friend or held for you until you are transferred to a nursing unit.
Environmental/Housekeeping Services
The Environmental Services staff is responsible for providing a clean and safe environment for patients. Your room is cleaned daily.
Your Meals
Wholesome, nourishing and well-balanced meals are an important part of your treatment and recovery. Mercy makes every effort to provide nutritious meals that are prepared according to your physician's orders.
In most instances, your first meal will be ordered in advance. You will, however, have the opportunity to choose the next day's breakfast, lunch and dinner from a variety of foods permitted on your diet plan. Occasionally your meal may be delayed if you are scheduled for a special test or treatment. Whenever possible, you will be served after your examination or test.
You may order a visitor guest tray to be delivered to your room when your own tray is being served. Requests for guest trays may be placed with the nurse on duty at least one hour in advance of the desired meal (24 hours in advance for holiday meals). An additional charge will be made for guest meals.
