Surgery for Ovarian Cancer
Mercy has invested in the technology to provide advanced surgical procedures in the fight against ovarian cancer. It is a disease that attacks one in 57 women, according to the Institute of Health. While most cases occur in women over the age of 50, the disease can also affect younger women.
Surgery is the standard treatment, and prognosis depends a great deal upon how successful the surgeon is in completely removing all visible and palpable cancer. Mercy has invested in the technology to assist the surgeon in detecting and removing diseased cells. The technology includes a device called a CUSA (Cavitational Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator). Another piece of equipment utilized at Mercy is the Argon Beam Coagulator, It uses a beam of ionized argon gas to conduct a high-frequency electric current to the tissues and destroy cancer cells while also sealing vessels
