General Information
Advances in instrumentation and techniques have dramatically changed the way vascular surgery is done. At Mercy, we provide an advanced setting for vascular surgery utilizing new diagnostic and endovascular techniques.
From stroke prevention to improving blood flow, many problems can be treated through vascular surgery and techniques.
In 2004, Mercy became the first hospital in Kern County to repair an abdominal aortic aneurysm using a new, minimally invasive technique. The new surgery transformed what has been traditional open surgery into a procedure that is done within the walls of the blood vessels. While the traditional "open" surgery involves general anesthesia and six or more days of hospitalization, the new method results in a shorter hospital recovery time of two days.
