Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
The field of plastic and reconstructive surgery is rapidly changing as advances make new procedures possible and improve outcomes for patients. Mercy provides an advanced setting for facial and body cosmetic procedures as well as reconstructive surgery after injury.
Many surgeries can be done today on an outpatient basis because of the advances in technology and treatment. The minimally invasive techniques employed for most outpatient surgeries result in shorter recovery times, allowing the patient to return to his or her own home the same day as surgery.
All of our surgeons are highly skilled and many hold special qualifications in specific areas. Our surgery team and support staff are highly trained and experienced to provide you with quality and compassionate care.
Immediate Breast Reconstruction
Immediate reconstruction for women undergoing mastectomy is now offered at Mercy Hospital. This new method of breast reconstruction offers advantages for the patient. Not only does the presence of a reconstructed breast improve the woman's psychological well-being after surgery, but it almost always decreases scarring on the breast. While there are some cases where immediate reconstruction may not be viable, most women are candidates for some type of reconstruction. Health insurance is obligated to cover reconstruction.
