Outpatient Surgery

General Information

Many surgeries can be done today on an outpatient basis because of the advances in technology and treatment. The advanced laparoscopic techniques employed for most outpatient surgeries result in shorter recovery times, allowing the patient to return to his or her own home the same day as surgery.

All our highly-qualified surgeons hold special qualifications in specific areas. Our surgery team and support staff are highly trained and experienced to provide you with quality and compassionate care. Mercy offers an outpatient surgery program at both facilities.

If you are scheduled for outpatient surgery at Mercy Hospital or Mercy Southwest Hospital, you will receive pre-surgery instructions from your physician. In those instructions, you will learn about your diet and liquid intake before and after your surgery. It is very important that you follow those instructions. Please call your physician if you have questions about these items.

Please arrive at the designated time to allow for the admitting process. Also, you will need someone to drive you home from the hospital. You also may need to make sure someone will be at home to help with your care after surgery. Please talk with your physician about your needs after surgery.
