Skilled Nursing
At Mercy’s Skilled Nursing Facility, we care for patients who are not ready to return home but no longer require the level of care provided inside the hospital.
It is our goal to help you return to the highest level of independence as quickly as possible. Ours is a patient-centered environment where several areas of expertise come together, ensuring a level of care that matches your physical, social, and emotional needs. Our staff will work with you and your family to develop a treatment plan that will maximize new capabilities, while at the same time help you cope and adapt to physical changes.
Our patients receive individualized skilled nursing care. The core care team consists of registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses and certified nursing assistants, selected to assure the appropriate range of nursing skills and are available to fulfill the restorative needs of our residents. In addition, we offer comprehensive therapy programs, including physical, occupational and speech therapy. Hospice services and spiritual support services are also available. And because the Mercy Skilled Nursing Facility is a member of the Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield family and immediately adjacent to Mercy Hospital, all the services of an acute care hospital are readily available if necessary.
Here are some important things to know about your stay at Mercy Skilled Nursing: • We are a restraint-free facility.
• Patients may wear their own clothes, but laundry will not be provided for these items. Hospital gowns are available.
• Visiting hours are 6 AM – 10 PM daily. Family support is very important in the recovery process; however, patients also need time to participate in prescribed therapy and rest.
• We provide social activities and pet therapy.
• A discharge plan will be developed at the time of admission. This plan may be adapted as needed depending on a patient’s requirements. A case manager will work with each patient to personalize the discharge plan.
• Each patient and their family are invited to participate in a Care Plan meeting within the first two weeks of admission.
• Social Services are available by referral or by patient or family request.
• Physicians are not required to see patients at the facility daily. Your primary care physician will see you within the first 72 hours of admission and at least once every 30 days after that for the first 90 days after admission.
