The Lactation Support Center is Bakersfield’s first center to offer a full scope of resources for breastfeeding women. Our center offers pump rentals, a retail store filled with items made especially for breastfeeding mothers, and the personalized support of our trained staff. Through the Lactation Support Center, the high-quality care our hospital is known for is extended to you even after you and your baby go home.
Lactation Consultation Criteria
What do I need in order to schedule an appointment?
• Referral from lactation staff at the Family Birth Center at Mercy’s Southwest Campus
• Pediatrician Referral
• Patient Self-Referral
** All Mercy and Memorial patients will receive free consultations. Community clients will be charged a one time fee.

What kinds of things will I find at the center?
• Pump rental and sales
• Pump replacement and supplemental items
• Breastfeeding bras
• Herbal supplements
• Free breastfeeding literature
• Information about Family Birth Center classes
• Education assistance with pump rentals
